PatientKeeper Reports Impressive 51 Percent Growth in 2004

Diverse Client Base, Proven ROI, New Partnerships, and an Open Extensible Platform Establish PatientKeeper as the Standard for Mobile Computing in Healthcare

BOSTON, MASS. - February 8, 2005 - PatientKeeper®, a leading provider of mobile computing solutions for healthcare, announced today the addition of 23 new customer contracts in 2004, representing 112 hospitals and a 51 percent growth of its client base. PatientKeeper has quickly become the clear choice for a wide range of healthcare organizations - from multi-hospital health systems and academic medical centers to community hospitals and group practices. As a further testament to the positive financial and clinical impact that PatientKeeper products deliver, 10 existing customers purchased new applications and/or additional user licenses.

Some of the clients PatientKeeper added in the latter part of the year are Adventist West, BayCare Health System, Clarian Health, Eagle Hospital Physicians, Holzer Medical Center, MedStar Health (including Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital and Franklin Square Hospital Center), The Samuel Bronfman Department of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, Northeast Medical Center Hospital, Palmetto Health, Partners Healthcare (including Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization and Massachusetts General Physicians Organization), Saint Thomas Health Services, Sisters of St. Francis Health System, TriHealth of Ohio and University Physicians Associates (affiliated with University of Tennessee Medical Center).

"For Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center, mobility is more than technology. It is a long-term commitment that will positively impact our operations and healthcare delivery. PatientKeeper is our strategic partner," said Sameer Bade, M.D., assistant vice-president of clinical IT strategies at MedStar Health. "With its open platform, PatientKeeper provides the flexibility to handle complex and disparate integration requirements."

"Northeast Medical Center Hospital (NEMCH) recognized that niche point applications were not the long-term solution, so we turned to PatientKeeper for their broad portfolio of proven applications - including clinical results, charge capture and ePrescription," said Carla Maslakowski, chief information officer, NEMCH. "PatientKeeper's ability to quickly implement in our HL7-based environment was particularly impressive. We kicked off our implementation the week before Thanksgiving and had our first user live before the New Year."

The Standard for Mobile Computing in Healthcare

While PatientKeeper's gains have come primarily from direct business, partners such as Cerner, DrFirst and Park City Solutions made solid contributions to the record growth. With the addition of new partners such as GE Healthcare, Cingular Wireless, Epocrates, Lexi-Comp, Skyscape, Sprint, and others, PatientKeeper is emerging as the standard for mobile computing in healthcare.

In June, PatientKeeper completed a $7 million round of funding to support continued investment in R&D and in operations to support its rapidly growing client base. As planned, PatientKeeper expanded its headcount by 50 percent over the past six months. Additions were made across all areas with an emphasis on client services and product development.

"We are pleased to see the impact that PatientKeeper is having on a broad, diverse set of healthcare organizations, and are excited about the potential benefits our new partnerships will bring to our customers," said Paul W. Brient, president and CEO of PatientKeeper, Inc. "We introduced our first mobile application (charge capture) in 1999, followed by clinical results in 2002. We continue to invest in enhancing and expanding our solutions to truly automate the physician workflow. With a maturing market and our rapidly expanding applications portfolio (now including clinical desktop, mobile dictation, ePrescription and reference library), we find ourselves helping to lead a dramatic change in terms of how physicians access information and practice medicine. Whether on a PDA, smartphone, tablet, or desktop, PatientKeeper solutions are being used to support an increasingly large portion of the overall physician workflow."

"The healthcare market demands an open platform approach with flexible integration options," said Jeff Sutherland, Ph.D., chief technology officer of PatientKeeper, Inc., and co-chair of HL7's orders and observations committee. "PatientKeeper is the only company to offer direct integration as well as HL7-based interfacing, and even a hybrid of both approaches. Our flexibility ensures that clients can extend their existing IT investments and avoid future obsolescence."

PatientKeeper will demonstrate its latest products in Booth #5410 at the 2005 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition in Dallas, February 14-17.
