BOSTON, Mass. - July 20, 2005 - PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of mobile computing solutions for healthcare, announced today that a PatientKeeper client, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi in Texas, was named one of the winners of the 2005 AMDIS Awards for excellence and achievement in applied medical informatics. In particular, CHRISTUS Health's Mobile Healthcare Team was recognized for several important achievements: improving access to clinical information, enhancing patient safety, and streamlining physician workflow.
The annual award program is organized by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS), a non-profit organization comprised of over 1,200 physician leaders responsible for information technology in their organizations. Dr. Darrick Nelson, assistant professor of family practice and informatics fellow, represented the CHRISTUS Health's Mobile Healthcare Team and was honored at the 14th Annual Physician-Computer Connection Symposium in San Diego, California.
"Our win of the 2005 AMDIS Award was certainly the result of a true team effort," said Dr. Nelson. "Physicians, members of IT, and administrators worked together with the goal of getting doctors out of the back office and giving them more time with their patients. With PatientKeeper, doctors can review the latest lab results, discuss them with the patient, and make decisions about treatment right at the point of care."
Like many hospitals, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital was faced with overlapping needs - enhancing patient safety and providing greater access to patient information. By deploying mobile applications, physicians now have easy access to key patient information using handheld computers. Along with Dr. Nelson, the award recognized Cathy Duffy, a registered nurse and manager of clinical applications, and Esmeralda Martinez, an application analyst on the physician support team.
"Physicians are playing increasingly key roles in selecting and personalizing their information technology," said Stephen S. Hau, founder & vice president of marketing and business development for PatientKeeper. "PatientKeeper is proud that AMDIS has recognized Dr. Nelson and the Mobile Healthcare Team at CHRISTUS Health for their success in applying information technology tools that have generated real benefits in patient care and physician satisfaction."
