PatientKeeper Enhances Patient Care at Berger Health System
BOSTON, MA and CIRCLEVILLE, OH–May 28, 2008– PatientKeeper, Inc., the leading provider of integrated physician information systems, and Ohio-based community hospital Berger Health Systems, announce the successful deployment and use of the PatientKeeper Platform and Physician Portal with Berger physicians.
For the past several months, Berger Health System has been working with its physicians to enable them to use PatientKeeper Physician Portal, a Web-based application that gives physicians remote access to Berger patient information. The system provides an innovative solution for physicians to have a unified view of patient information including lab and imaging results, medications, allergies, information from hospital records and ER visits, that they can access from any computer, inside or outside the hospital. Physicians have secure access to results and other reports at Berger as soon as they are entered into the hospital’s disparate information systems.
PatientKeeper’s technology is one part of a larger initiative at Berger to enhance quality, safety and satisfaction among its physicians and patients. As a result of this convenient, remote access to patient test results, physicians are able to diagnose and treat their patients in a timelier manner.
While PatientKeeper data is accessible from any computer, confidential patient information is secure. HIPAA requirements are met by allowing physicians to only access information on patients for whom they are providing care. HIPAA is a federal regulation, mandating that hospitals and other healthcare providers protect the confidentiality of patient information.
In addition, because clinical information is staged within the PatientKeeper system, it provides Berger with a business continuity solution. With PatientKeeper, physicians and other caregivers have seamless access to patient information for physicians during planned and unplanned hospital information system downtime.

Because of the complicated nature of patient care, it’s necessary to use a number of patient information systems that are interfaced, but not convenient for physicians to access in one step (e.g. MEDITECH, PACS, EKG). The difference now is that through the PatientKeeper Physician Information System, physicians can access all of this information through one computerized program.
